Strategic Research Executive (Analytics), UK | Work Visa Sponsorship

We seek candidates that align with our core values of community, knowledge, integrity, and cooperation to fill the Strategic Research Executive (Analytics) role. Such will take charge of developing cutting-edge data models and analyzing both the internal and external research environments to discover new and exciting research possibilities and boost the expansion of the University’s research portfolio. 

Duties

  • Design research and data-led projects that are fit-for-purpose
  • Enable modeling and forecasting, and communicate corresponding advice, insights, action recommendations, deliverables, and KPIs to relevant stakeholders
  • Take charge of all project aspects, including stakeholder communications strategy, appropriate informal line management, working group convening, influencing senior colleagues, establishing excellent project governance (ethics, steering committees, ownership of deliverables, accountabilities, timelines, and dependencies), and ensuring high-quality project delivery.
  • Effectively identify, analyze and interpret complex data sets and intelligence from multiple sources, combining them appropriately to provide a realistic assessment and evidence-based report of the University’s position over the short and long term. 
  • Delegate key project activities to Strategic Research Development team members.
  • Actively support major institutional initiatives led by others to share expertise and provide specialist support within the team and the larger group at the Edinburgh Research Office.
  • Proactively identify, build and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, partners and influencers to negotiate for the delivery of projects.
  • Proactively recognize and mitigate problems and risks that can impact project delivery, as well as the finances and reputation of the University as a whole. 
  • Exhibit autonomous decision-making to recognize and take advantage of potential opportunities. The exact degree of such autonomy will be agreed upon with the Head of Strategic Research Development at the start of every project.

Qualifications

  • Relevant degree or equivalent formal training
  • Two years minimum practical experience in similar or related analytical role(s)
  • Advanced proficiency in a range of software, including SQL and PowerBI
  • Ability to grasp new knowledge effectively and assess its importance for the University.
  • Proven track record of analyzing complex issues and designing recommendations for progression based on the analysis.
  • Good experience in ethical data use, including responsible metrics.
  • Proven experience in applying quantitative and qualitative skills to write strategic reports 
  • Tangible knowledge of project design, development, planning, detailed organization, and delivery
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills and ability to influence and persuade diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage a diverse and complex workload, with effective prioritization, adaptability, and flexibility to still meet key targets
