Responsibilities

  • Determine the suitability of test specimens, using predefined quality parameters.
  • Conduct routine and complicated technical processes and functions, following the standard operating procedures of the department
  • Ensure that proper monitoring, operating, and troubleshooting of instrumentation is done, to guarantee correct functioning.
  • Show your ability to arrive at technical decisions about testing and troubleshooting.
  • New reagents or controls must be prepared, tested, and evaluated.
  • To provide excellent patient care, test results must be reported accurately and on time.
  • Carry out and record preventive maintenance and quality control processes.
  • Ensure that testing bench materials are identified and restocked as needed.
  • When required, help with specimen processing.
  • Continually maintain a safe work setting and always use the necessary personal protective equipment.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or another life science in combination with a completed 12-month Medical Technology training program. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science from a recognized college or university, as well as one year of training or work experience in the specialization in which testing will be done. This training needs to be equivalent to that obtained in a Medical Technology school.
  • Compliance with municipal regulatory (CLIA and state) requirements.
  • Prior generalist experience, which includes Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Urinalysis is desirable.
  • It is preferable to have ASCP or AMT accreditation.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Computer skills; Knowledge of laboratory information management systems is beneficial.
  • Strong attention to detail, as well as excellent communication and organizational abilities
  • Ability to pass a standardized color vision test.
  • Willingness and availability to work overtime or alternate shifts as needed by the organization
  • English language proficiency.
